Dear Mr. McNeil,
It has come to my attention that there are some serious problems for a MAC TOOL
distributor.
Did you know, for example, that:
MAC TOOLS has
ordered at least 125 trucks by September 1, 1997 and one hundred per month for
the next 12 months from Bush and Cook, a leasing company. Why? To hire what they
call distributor-employees (MAC DIRECT). MAC TOOLS has recognized many
traditional distributors will fall (or be forced) by the wayside to be replaced
by "MAC DIRECT".
Please ask yourself the following questions:
Have I had trouble getting product? If the answer is yes, how much more difficult is
it going to be with the additional pressure of a further 1325
distributor-employees. Distributor service levels have been consistently poor
for 2 years. Is it possible to effectively double the distributor force and
serve us all in a professional manner?
Have I discussed backorders or
other operational problems with my DBM or higher? If the answer is yes, were you
told that you were unique in the system, no one else is having these
difficulties? When sales meetings and visits from management have occurred, were
you continually pacified with no definitive action?
Have I had difficulty with getting credit applied to my account in a timely manner? If the answer is yes, what is this doing to your cash flow and your 30 day terms for your MAC
TOOLS payables.
Have I had to, or foreseen a need to, refinance my
business? the answer is yes, ask yourself why a distributor running a
"profitable business", as per training provided, should need to go "hat in hand"
to the banker.
If you have answered yes to one or more of these questions you may be interested to
know that a distributor association is being formed
in order that we may together try to alleviate individual frustration and
collectively negotiate with MAC TOOLS for a more equitable solution to our
problems.
If interested, please reply to the above P.O. Box and you will
be contacted as soon as possible.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours truly,
J. Robson
